Dr. Ganesh Thapa is an experienced and highly motivated research professional with 15 years of experience gained within world class research laboratories and industrial sectors. The experience includes Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Stress biology, analytical biochemistry, Functional genomics, Genome editing, Data analysis, infectious diseases, inflammation, immunoassays, peptides, and proteomics, in scientific focused environments where effective expertise, decision making, team management and leadership was required. Recently, he upskilled himself as data analytics and deep machine learning expertise. He understands the importance of maximizing my 15+ years of research, management, quality assurance, technology development standards, discovery program development and training experience in accordance with business objectives and delivering technical solutions to achieve strategic scientific goals, against deadlines. He is a results-based individual who can accept challenges with flexibility and agility along the way to achieve goals within timelines. He is a man of integrity, diverse knowledge and expertise, who is best suitable fo senior reseacher, academician, health and safety advisor.

Dr. Ganesh Thapa, a vibrant researcher who obtained his doctorate from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), India, has been working in the field of molecular stress biology, molecular genetics and stress physiology since 2001. Apart from his theses work, he has worked for several years in different research projects in reputed institutes of India. Through the whole research experience, he learned many of laboratory skills required for further research plan. Especially, in the past projects entitled “Molecular cloning and functional characterization of heavy metal stress specific responsive genes from water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes Solms.)” and “Molecular characterization and sub-cellular localization of barley aquaporin relative to its varied cellular functions”, he gained knowledge and skills for plant molecular biology, which is an important basis for further research plan. Overall research experience thus far helped him to gain a wide range of knowledge in various abiotic stresses, submergence tolerance in rice, heat shock proteins, drought and heavy metals stress and understand the intricacies and networks of various stress responses in plants.

He joined as Post Doctoral Scientist at Center for Peptide and Catalysis Unit, UKZN, Westville Campus, Durban with Prof Gret Kruger. There, he was involved with expression, purification and characterization of HIV PR protein with N15 labelling for structural analysis of wild type HIV PR proteins and its MDR related mutant type HIV PR protein. The endeavour was aimed to study the structural basis of HIV drug therapy induced MDR phenotype in patients and to finally come up with potential HIV PR inhibitors for HIV treatment.

His vast experience in abiotic tolerance mechanisms of plants has made him to go deeper into the mechanisms for future research. Hence, he moved to joined Earth Institute, UCD, Dublin for global project directed for future crops in collaboration with JIC, Norwich, Rothamsted Research Center and UCD, Dublin for deeper KASPAR, KASP analysis to find out specific SNP helping to move toward second green revolution. He successfully screened 2016 Cadenza TILLING lines, characterized LRR-RLK and patented RLK derived construct for the improvement of future wheat. He then joined as Research Fellow in University of Limerick to discover therapeutic peptides from marine fish to use against inflammation and allergy in humans. Post that, he was appointed by Trinity College of Dublin as Biosafety(Biohazards) Advisors to provide specific advices and train research to work on CL3 labs during whole Corona pandemic time - 2019-2020.His endeavor during this period was instrumental for the safety of entire TCD community and help start all the stalled research projects to restart with proper safety and compliance of safety guidance.
