About me

I am an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. Before starting at Notre Dame in 2016, I was a Bersoff Faculty Fellow at New York University. I received my Ph.D. from University of Texas at Austin in 2015.

My research is mainly in the philosophy of mind and metaphysics. I try to make progress on perennial metaphysical questions about the mind and the place of human persons within the cosmic scheme. In January of 2020, I began work as Principal Investigator on a 2-year project funded by the Templeton Religion Trust, entitled "Reductive Materialism and the Moral Significance of Consciousness." The project seeks to better understand the role of consciousness in grounding value, welfare, and moral status.
