The Choral Union Members
Barbara Zachow, Director
Barbara Zachow, conductor, is honored to be the conductor of Choral Union. She received both the Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Sacred Music degrees from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. She received her MS in Choral Music Education in 1989 and her MM in Choral Conducting in 1998 from the University of Illinois. Barbara Zachow has taught general and vocal music in public schools in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Virginia. She has conducted musicians of all ages (pre-school through senior citizens). She conducted the Children’s Choir, Agapé Ensemble, and Youth Choir at Wesley United Methodist Church for twelve years. She conducted the Boy Choir of Blacksburg Children’s Chorale from 2008-2009 and taught American Music, Music Appreciation, Chamber Singers, and Parkland Chorus at Parkland College from 1990 through 2014.
Barbara Zachow was Director of Children’s Music Ministries at First United Methodist Church in Champaign from 1998 through Spring of 2014. She has recently been appointed as the Director of Music and Worship at First United Methodist Church, Champaign, where she is responsible for “all things worship” and several musical ensembles including three children’s and youth ensembles, Chancel Ringers, Chancel Choir, Perceptions Praise Team, Joybells, and the Instrumental Ensemble. She is also a member of the American Choral Directors Association, and sings with Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana as well as serves on their Board.
When she is not teaching, singing, or conducting, Barbara enjoys planting flowers in her garden.
Sunny Choo, Accompanist
Sunny Choo, accompanist, is an active musician in the Champaign-Urbana area. She holds a bachelor degree in music from Seoul National University where she majored in oboe. She received her Masters of Music from Indiana University where she also majored in oboe. Sunny currently plays oboe and piano in various community organizations such as the Tuesday Morning Musical Club, at First United Methodist Church, Champaign, and in The Prairie Ensemble. Sunny Choo is also working at Urbana School District 116 and is the principal of the Korean Language School. She teaches piano and oboe, accompanies students in Solo-Ensemble Contest, accompanies the violin students of Stephanie Price, and accompanies Chamber Singers at Parkland College in Champaign.
