College Algebra (Prep and Dual Credit)

This course is divided into two different semesters (1st semester, 2nd semester).

1. In the first semester (College Algebra Prep) students will be able to: Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of expressions vs. equations (which include different types of factoring) absolute values and inequalities, Demonstrate a understanding of the real number system (including the smaller systems), unions intersections and empty sets, Apply graphing techniques, Identify the different types od conics by equation as well as creating equations from conic graphs. This basic informaiton is designed to help the student be more successful the 2nd semester.

2. In the second semester (College Algebra Dual)students have the opportunity to receive dual credit (thorough SAC). Students will be expected to: Deonstrate and apply knowledge of properties of functions, including domain and range, operations, compositions and inverses, Recongnize and apply polnomial, rational, radical, exponential and logarithmic functions and solve related equations, Appley graphing techniques, Evaluate all roots of higher degree polynomial and rational functions, Recognize, solve and apply systems of linear equations using matrices, and the instructor has the option to include such topics as sequences, series, probability, and conics.

The curriculum is determined by Alamo Community College District's San Antonio College (SAC) for Math 1414 curriculum. Students will find homework assignments, note, and any additional handouts divided by topic. All items are posted in PDF format.

You will need your to know your ACES username and password for access to Canvas. Many of your Quizzes will be posted in Canvas. You will be responsible for completing the quizzes by a certain time. If it is not completed by the designated time then you will recieve a zero for the quiz.

The textbook we will be using as a reference is Algebra and Trigonometry. This is a free online textbook that you can download or used online.
