Why Come to CAT South?
Programs at CAT South combine rigorous academic theory with applied problem-based learning experiences. Students make connections to real-world situations, making them more prepared for the workforce and college. Students here learn to use their minds in a way standard classrooms often miss. Modern industries demand a workforce qualified to analyze problems and use creative thinking to solve them. Professionalism and strong team communication in conjunction with the ability to problem-solve are 21st Century skills employers crave in their workers. The Culinary Arts program at CAT South is dedicated to building these skills in our students. Having these skills will make them not only career ready but better situated for success in college. The Culinary Arts program also stresses sustainable practices, which will give students a better understanding of how our actions can impact our natural resources and better prepare them for the growing green economy.
According to Mona Mourshed, partner and co-leader of Global Education Practice of McKinsey and Co.:
• "30 percent of available jobs internationally remain unfilled because companies are unable to find qualified talent."
• "70 percent of students leaving school at all levels lack practical experience."
• "56 percent of students leaving school lack any specific career training."
• "58 percent lack a sense of work ethic and professional conduct."
• "62 percent lack the ability to adequately communicate in both oral and written form."
• "Students entering the workplace (including those leaving university and graduate schools) are generally unable to produce immediate results."

None of those statements can be used to describe students completing programs at CAT South. Enriching their educational experience by including career and technology program completion makes our students prepared for college and the workforce. This isn't your parents' vo-tech!! Many of our students carry several AP classes at their home schools and plan to attend 4-year colleges after graduation. Others are eager to put their skills to use right away and join the workforce after graduation. The choice is theirs and the world is their oyster (culinary pun intended).
