Nobody likes it, but accidents happen; and that's what insurance is for. Our pack is insured through BSA for most accidents and injuries. There are of course a lot of legal details, but in short, the coverage is for registered BSA volunteers, Scouts, and prospective new Scouts. However, the plan DOES NOT cover parents, siblings, and or other guests.
The most important thing is of course to call 911 if there is a serious injury. Secondly, make sure your unit leader is notified as soon as practical to help with documentation. Lastly, you must file a claim on an accident report form within 90 days of the injury to be covered. The insurance company (HSRI) will have your medical professional bill them directly and you should not have to pay any fees up front. You will be reimbursed for any fees you were required to pay up front by your medical provider. The coverage is for fees incurred by the injured party ABOVE AND BEYOND your personal medical coverage.
The above information is just a synopsis of the procedure and coverage. Please read the below from NCAC in order to learn the specific details and/or to file a claim.
