How old do you have to be to join Cub Scouts?

Our program is open to children grades K - 5. Children that have completed 5th grade are no longer eligible for Cub Scouts, but are able to move on to Boy Scouts.

How often do Cub Scouts meet?

Our scouts meet every other Monday for den meetings, and one Friday per month for pack meetings. Meetings are approximately one hour. We also offer the opportunity to participate in special events and trips throughout the year. Parents are welcome to attend our planning meetings, which are held one Monday per month.

How do den meetings, pack meetings, and planning meetings differ?

• Den meetings are designed for each den to work on their own requirements or projects.
• Pack meetings give all dens and their families the opportunity to interact, and usually includes a fun activity or event.
• Planning meetings are held in order to discuss the upcoming agenda, as well as ideas for fundraisers and events. Parents are encouraged to attend to express their ideas, or just to provide feedback.

Where are meetings held?

All of our meetings are held within Spotswood schools. Prior to when our meetings resume in September, the schools in which our meetings will be held for the year will be announced. Occasionally, we will have to change a location due to scheduling conflicts. Parents will be notified of any changes via email.

What supplies are needed to participate?

Each scout will have to purchase a uniform. A new cap will have to be purchased every year, but the rest of the uniform remains the same until your child enters the fourth grade. At that time, a new uniform will be needed as they enter the Webelos den. The Webelos uniform remains the same for the last two years of Cub Scouts, and carries over into the Boy Scout program. As such, it's best to purchase a uniform that's a bit large.

A new neckerchief and class B t-shirt (our informal uniform) will be provided by the pack each year, as they are included in annual dues.

Where can I purchase uniforms and scouting materials?

Visit www.scoutshop.org to find a list of distributors in the area. If you are financially unable to purchase a uniform, please reach out to the Cubmaster. There may be hand me down uniforms available. You may also look online for discounted sales or trades.

Do parents have a role in Cub Scouts?

Yes! Cub Scouts is a family oriented organization that gives you the opportunity to connect with your child through the activities and events that we offer. The program is led by parents, so all of our events are a group effort. Whether you are able to take on a leadership or committee role, or help out at specific events; parental involvement keeps our program running smoothly.

How do I become a volunteer?

Express your interest to the Cubmaster, or a committee member. They will help you understand the process, and guide you on areas where the pack needs support.

Is training required to become a volunteer?

Training is required for all leaders and committee members by the BSA. This includes a youth protection seminar and planning courses. Courses can be completed online at no charge. Additional training is required by our charter organization, Immaculate Conception Church. This is an in-person class that pertains to working with youth organizations, as well as a background check.

Training is not required to become a chairperson, or assist with specific events.
