Computer Hardware Technology Technician


Course Description

This 1-year program in Computer Hardware Technology Technician is designed to provide the student with the technical knowledge and skills required for an entry-level position in the information and computer technology career field. The program will participate in the NYS Career Exploration and Internship Program [CEIP]. The course will prepare you to take the TestOut PC Pro and CompTIA A+ Certification Examinations.

Expectations

The TestOut PC Pro Certification program covers computer architecture, computer literacy, basic computer repair level I, advanced computer repair level II, and non- destructive troubleshooting methods. Students registered for this class must be willing to complete a number of assignments in order to become proficient in the subject matter.

The student must be committed to producing quality work. Upon completing the course, the student will be able to intelligently discuss, analyze and implement a variety of strategies for computer creation and repairs. The student must strive to go beyond the basic requirements of the course and attempt to gather additional material regarding this broad and complex area.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to install and repair hardware and implement appropriate configuration and set-up strategies.

  • Students will be able to install and configure a variety of software OS's and packages.

  • Students will understand basic software repair techniques.

  • Students will be able to install and configure basic networking and networking security.

  • Students will be able to setup peer-to-peer LAN.

  • Students will understand the difference between Client and Server.

  • Student will possess the knowledge required to pass the industry standard CompTIA exam.
