Cub Scout Pack 154 invites families of boys and girls currently in grades Kindergarten to 5th to join our Pack!
Cub Scouting has ideals of spiritual and character growth, good citizenship, sportsmanship and fitness, personal achievement, and community service.
Our program is family-oriented and fun. We enjoy outdoor activities such as hikes and campfires. Scouts participate in special trips and tours, such as the Thomas Edison Museum. For those who enjoy building and designing things, we have our annual Pinewood Derby races.

Q. Who is Pack 154?
Pack 154 is chartered to the First Presbyterian Church at 50 Main St, in Englishtown, NJ.
We have scouts from many surrounding towns.
We currently have a small pack but we anticipate having more scouts Fall recruiting ends.
We are part of the Battleground District in the Monmouth Council
Q. What is Cub Scouting?
Cub scouting is a year-round family-oriented program for boys who in the first grade through fifth grade. Kindergarten boys may register on June 1. Special emphasis is placed on character development, skills development, spiritual growth, citizenship, and family values.
Q. I’ve signed up with Pack 154, what happens now?
Attend a Pack meeting for information for New Scout Families while the Scouts participate in the meeting.
Summer events are hosted by the Pack and attended by Scouts and their families.
In Fall, new Scouts are assigned to a Den and notified by the Cubmaster.
During the school year, Scouts attend ~2 meetings with their Den and one with the Pack every month.
Throughout the calendar year there are special events with the Pack
Q. What are the Cub Scout ranks?
Grade 1 is Tiger (orange) and is a parent-child program. Grade 2 is Wolf (red). Grade 3 is Bear (light blue) Grade 4 is Webelos (olive plaid), which is a transitional program to the boy scout level.
Q. What is a Den and Den Meeting?
A Den is a group of 6-8 (max. of 10) girls or boys of the same age/grade level. Dens are grouped by the following ranks:
• Lion (Kinder, accompanied by an Adult Partner)
• Tiger (1st grade, accompanied by an Adult Partner)
• Wolf (2nd grade)
• Bear (3rd grade)
• Webelos (4th grade) – Den is called a Patrol
• Arrow of Light (5th grade) – Den is called a Patrol
During the school year, a Den meets ~2x/month at a time and location set by the Families and Den Leader.
Each Den works toward earning their rank. The adventures they must complete are outlined in the Cub Scout Handbooks and are fun, meaningful and age appropriate
Q. Where does Cub Scout Pack 154 meet for the Pack/Den Meetings?
Most Den and Pack meetings will take place at the First Presbyterian Church located at 50 Main Street in Englishtown. Sometimes meetings are held outdoors or off-site when part of a required activity for the rank.
Q. How often do the Cub Scouts meet?
Dens usually meet about twice a month for about 1-1/2 hours during a day and time that works best for the families in the den. The Pack (consisting of all the scout members) meets once a month for about 1-1/2 hours usually on a Friday evening, unless otherwise noted.
Q. What is the difference between the Pack and Den meetings?
The Pack meeting is when all the Dens come together once a month and meet as a group. Pack meetings are intended for the entire family. It is a time for the Pack families to get together to learn and celebrate each other’s accomplishments. Some Pack Meetings are special programs including the annual Blue & Gold Banquet and Pinewood Derby. Pack meetings include time for recognitions and awards, skits performed by the Dens, guest speakers, important announcements, etc. Den meetings consist of the small group of boys in your own Den. It is a time for working on required activities to obtain the rank, skills, games, and learning new things. The Den meeting may consist of a field trip to a fun/educational place of interest.
Q. What does the registration fee cover?
The fee includes the scout’s registration dues with the district office, insurance and an annual subscription to “Boy’s Life” magazine, the BSA magazine for boys. The yearly registration fee is currently around $148. This inludes the Scouting of America membership for January to December is $72; Boys Life magazine $1/month $12 per year. Accident and Sickness Insurance is $12 per year; Monmouth Council Service Fee is $52.

Q. What other costs are expected?
Pack 154 collects dues to cover expenses such as: awards (belt loops, patches, pins, etc.), activity Kits (ex. pinewood derby), Den and Pack expenditures (supplies/materials, meetings, training, etc.), and the Blue and Gold Banquet meal for each scout. Dues for Pack 154 are typically $15 a month, preferably collected upfront at the beginning of the school year or upon registration mid-year. Cub Scouts will need to purchase their official uniform and rank handbook. There are some optional activities that may have an extra fee, such as a family trip (ex Blue Claws game).
Q. What do I need to know about the uniform?
The official Cub Scout uniform consists of a neckerchief with slide and hat (color based on rank, see above), a scout shirt (blue shirt for grades 1-3--buy a little big so it can be used for a few years; tan shirt for grades 4-5), and the required patches (Monmouth Council Battleground District Patch, Pack Numbers 154, World Scout Crest Emblem, US Flag). Scout pants and belt are optional. Den number patch is provided by the Pack. New scouts may purchase a uniform at the Scout Shop, 705 Ginesi Drive, in Morganville. Store hours are posted on the Monmouth Council website: www.monmouthbsa.org. Total cost is around $110. The Scout Shop offers sewing service. Or, there is an adhesive bond that can be purchased there.

Q. What is my family’s commitment as members?
Boys are expected to attend meetings on a regular basis. If there are scheduling conflicts due to family obligations, sports, religious education, etc. the parents may help the scout complete the missed requirement. Family participation is an important component of the Pack program. Parents act as leaders, committee members, and in other volunteer capacities. It is also expected that families help with our fund-raising efforts.
Q. What is a chartered organization? How does the chartered organization and the Pack relate to each other?
A chartered organization sponsors the scouting unit by providing meeting space and support to the Pack. Our chartered organization is the First Presbyterian Church of Englishtown. To show appreciation to the church members, Pack 154 helps with church activities such as the Turkey Supper and leads beautification projects on the church grounds. There is no requirement to be a member of the church or of the same religious denomination to be a part of the Pack.
