Building & Tuning Boats

NOTE: Walt Shugg reminds us - The entire model should be washed with dishwashing soap (like Dawn) and water to remove soluble dirt and contaminants. When dry, the area to be painted should then be cleaned with a fast evaporating solution (like rubbing alcohol) to remove any wax and/or grease left behind. Only after both of these steps are taken should the boat be sanded to prep for filling imperfections, sanding and painting

Removing Adhesive and Wrinkles from Your Sails (from Tom Alessi) -  Ruth (At Victor) said she usually uses mineral spirits to remove adhesive and other contaminants that are soluble in mineral spirits.  She thought acetone would work too.  To make sure she tested acetone on a piece of scrap sail cloth and said it did indeed work. Then Ruth made the comment that mineral spirits and acetone removed wrinkles too.  I thought she was kidding but it does work.  (Tom and I used mineral spirits)
