Gary K.L. Tam received his B.Eng. (first class honors), M.Phil., Ph.D. degrees and PGCtHE (HEA fellow) from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, Durham University and Swansea University respectively. He served as an instructor at the City University of Hong Kong in 2004 and as a research associate in the Department of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University in 2009. Since 2012, he has been a member of the Department of Computer Science at Swansea University, where he is currently a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor), an active collaborator in the Visual Computing Group and RIVIC, and the REF lead for the department.
Gary led and developed the BSc Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence programme at Swansea University. His research interests focus on 3D geometry and computer vision. He has served as Guest Editor for special issues of International Journal of Computer Vision (2017), Computers (2018, 2019), and Applied Sciences (2023, 2024), and as Associate Editor for AI Communications since 2024. He is frequently invited to review papers for top venues, including IEEE TPAMI, IJCV, CVPR, ICCV, AAAI, SIGGRAPH, and SIGGRAPH Asia.
