Farm notes

06/28/16: We've had a busy spring with lots of rain. The apple and pear trees are doing very well. We acquired four hens (two Rhode Island Reds and two Americanas) from Gilmanor Farms Poultry Swap at the beginning of May, and we are currently on 'egg watch'. We also started a bee hive at the end of May. It is very satisfying to watch the pollinators make their rounds.

07-29-15: Seven months later... this just shows how busy gardeners can get in the spring/summer. The garden is bursting at the seams, and the pear tree is laden with fruit. I've already made blackberry jam, pickles and tomato jam. Today was the first day of collecting fallen pears to make into jam and pie filling. What shall I make first?

Still working on having chickens. My four hens were eaten by a fox this spring. While the coop is secure, the run needs reinforcement. Yet another thing to add to the to-do list.

12-24-14: This is the time of year where we gardeners reflect on our harvest and look forward to spring. There is always something that needs to be done... a chicken coop to build, website to create, seeds to order and tools to repair. I wish you good health and gardening weather in the year to come.
