Personal Information

Costas Panagiotakis was born in Heraklion, Crete, Greece in 1979. He is married with two children. 

He received the B.Sc. (9.0/10 highest honors),  M.Sc. (highest honors) and Ph.D. degrees in  Computer Science from University of Crete in 2001, 2003 and 2007, respectively.

Currently, he is Associate Professor and Head in Department of Management Science and Technology, Hellenic Mediterranean University and Director of Data Science, Multimedia and Modelling Laboratory. He is also researcher at the Computational Vision and Robotics Laboratory, Institute of Computer Science, Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas. In 1999 he has also joined the Multimedia Informatics Laboratory (Supervisor: Prof. G. Tziritas), University of Crete. He has been involved in several R&D projects funded by the EC. In the past, he was Visiting Professor in Computer Science Dept., University of Crete (2008-2012). 

He is the author of one book (monograph) and more than 80 articles in international journals and conferences with more than 2000 citations

Dr. Panagiotakis has been received several awards and prizes:

- Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) undergraduate scholarships (1997-1999)

- Sponsor Award on International Conference AMDO (2006)

- Cor Baayen Award finalist (2009)

- Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) Postdoc scholarship (2009-10)

- Best Paper Award on International Conference on Future Information Technology (2011) 

- First Prize on Unsupervised Image Segmentation Contest of 22nd International Conference on Pattern Recognition 2014 

- Distinction in the international computer science competition of the RecSys conference (ACM RecSys Challenge 2022).

His research interests include signal processing, image and video analysis, multimedia, pattern recognition and recommender systems.
