AN INTRODUCTION TO FREEMASONRY

Freemasonry is the world's first and largest fraternal organization. It is open to men of adult age of any color, religion, nationality or social standing, the only requirement being a belief in a Supreme Being. Its body of knowledge and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while remaining devoted to his family, faith, country, and fraternity. From its earliest days, charity has been the most visible Masonic activity. Freemasons have always been devoted to caring for disadvantaged children, the sick and the elderly. In fact, Masons in North America give away over $2 million to national and local charities each day. Masons are also actively involved in a great deal of community volunteer work.

THE OBJECT OF MASONRY

"Flattering as it may be to the human mind, and truly honorable as it is to receive from our fellow citizens testimonies of approbation for exertions to promote the public welfare, it is not less pleasing to know that the milder virtues of the heart are highly respected by a Society whose liberal principles must be founded in the immutable laws of truth and justice.

To enlarge the sphere of social happiness is worthy of the benevolent design of a Masonic Institution; and it is most fervently to be wished that the conduct of every member of the Fraternity, as well as those publications that discover the principles that actuate them, may tend to convince mankind that the great Object of Masonry is to promote the happiness of the human race."
