Convert2geo is conversion utility specialized to creation of 3D geometry model on the base of a GIS data. The GIS data are in this case obtained from a shapefile especially from a dbf format data. The 3D geometry is built up into geo format which is native format of GMSH software. The GMSH is able to automatically generate a msh format (a mesh object) on the base of the geo format. Scheme of the conversion process is displayed on the picture below.
Logic scheme of the conversion process.
The Convert2geo allow to construct a several kinds of 3D geometry models (the Model1, Model2, Model3) and each of them is compatible to use for construction of mesh in the GMSH. All the models both geometry and mesh are displayed on the picture below.
A structure of "Model 1" is based on the tetrahedral prisms, which represents all the volume of object. This solution was primarily developed for construction of models with cracks or with many rocks in the model area.
The Model 2 was created like special solution for purposes when is needed another editing of the geometry object in the GMSH, for example to insert a tunnel. The benefit characteristic this model is mainly easy feature that allow to fairly good orientation in the model. This is particularly thanks to option to set a primitive bottom surface of the geometry model, while the top surface can be still complex from triangles.
The Model 3 is little bit different from both the first and second model. In this case is essential point of the model in the simple and easy structure, it means that the geometry object is created only like complex of rock boundaries and cracks. Consequently the result geometry model is filled by a generator of meshes and consequently the z level is implemented directly into mesh elements .
