Research
In the next 40 years another million people will move to Metro Vancouver. This demographic brings with them food needs that must be planned around to ensure a food sovereign region. This planning must ensure adequate land proximal to the city to support a healthy and resilient food system.
Our research focuses on ways to realize a food sovereign region through GIS analysis and visualizing techniques that enable clients to make appropriate decisions when designing a food secure region, neighborhood or backyard.
We've also explored tools to help visualize the impact of development opportunities. In 2009 the School of Community and Regional Planning at UBC Vancouver completed a conceptual plan to densify the Marpole Neighbourhood on Marine Drive. Digital, print and model based media were used to help the community make informed land use decisions.
