Birth parents have explicit rights re adoption information under several NZ laws; especially the:
a) Adult Adoption Information Act 1985, to ask CYF to trace a child placed for adoption; or
to place a veto for an adoption prior to 1986
b) Births, Deaths and Relationships Registration Act 1995 - add a birth father's name to
a preadoption birth certificate

In addition, birth parents can apply:
a) under the Privacy Act for all information supplied by them or about them
b) to a Judge, to open the Court adoption records, if they have "special grounds." under Section 23 Adoption Act 1955
