Note that scientific journals and papers are excluded from the above journalism entry: they do form part of science (the reporting of scientific methodologies, results and theories).

There is a type of science that uses scientific knowledge to develop or improve products and services that are used in business and/or society. This is called Applied Science. It might, or might not, use the full rigour of the science. Often in business, there is a commercial interest that involves keeping some details secret - so this means validation by independent peer review and experimental repeatability might not be possible. Applied science also differs from "pure science" in that it does not explicitly seek new scientific knowledge and understanding, i.e. it is more concerned with applying existing knowledge rather than creating and validating new scientific theories. However, sometimes the line between pure and applied science is blurred.
