We see lots of things in the world seem natural to represent with networks: basically, anything with components and interactions.
Many of these networks have features in common:
High clustering
Low path length
High variance in degree
The models we've seen are meant to have structure similar to natural networks.
How did they do?
Ideally, these models help explain why natural networks have this structure.
Question: The WS and BA models offer different explanations for the surprisingly short paths we see in social networks. In a few clear, concise, complete sentences, explain what the two explanations are.
What do we think of these explanations?
Next time, my attempt at a model that has all three properties.
