A little bit about me and my therapeutic philosophy
I do individual therapy with adults. Areas of expertise include loss and grief, transitions, illness, anxiety, depression, fear of intimacy and social interaction, as well as gender issues.
Philosophically, while it is important to keep up to date and learn new techniques, more than 2,000 studies have shown that the glue that holds therapy together is the relationship with the therapist created by his/her empathy. No matter how technically advanced one is, without empathy, therapy won’t work. More and more research backs this up. For me, the overarching outline, plan for therapy, is to first provide safety. Then work can begin on memories, issues, relationships, etc. The last step is to find meaning in one’s experience of suffering and put it into action in one’s life. Every step of our work together will be taken within an equal relationship. We will be partners on your journey to health.
This broad plan is how I work, and I see it as encompassing every form of therapy there is.
