For The Love Of Money (2014)
Strange Things shows more of Tackhead's boisterous industrial-funk, but executed in a way that's less memorable, songs coming across as imitations of Living Colour without Vernon Reid.
This is chiefly a result of their sound leaning to more funk-oriented acts such as Prince or the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Yet because Tackhead was already a funk-rock band, these influences sound good on paper -- but this is assuming the band works with dialing back their industrial nastiness in favor of less abrasive elements of funk. And this is not how Tackhead can play. Sure, the Ministry-esque samples and electronics persist (For This I Sing as the best example) but the grit has softened.
So, us listeners are left to be stimulated by what remains -- and though it's great musicianship, the compositions are underwhelming. At least Strange Things offers some of Wimbish's best basslines.
