For a time of early 60s psychedelia, the Doors adopted a dark, lustful, and angry tone rather than blissful vacancy of the jangle and chamber pop of their predecessors.
It's easy to see how their style would influence the sound of Gothic rock to emerge a decade later: Ray Manzarek's sparkling organs and the vocals of Morrison portray a simultaneous romance and aggression, further emphasized by erotic and unnerving lyrics.
