A later version of Three Imaginary Boys titled Boys Don't Cry would include the single of the same name.
The Cure's lineup would expand for a separate project called Cult Hero, but the formation would be short-lived, recording only one single (I'm a Cult Hero & I Dig You) before disbanding. A local postman named Frank Bell would give vocals instead of Smith, but the songs were still written by his predecessor. Smith would confess later that the project was only to gauge new bass-player Simon Gallup as a replacement for Michael Dempsey.
Soon after the single's release, Gallup would indeed replace Dempsey on bass, and keyboardist Matthieu Hartley would also stay to record for the Cure's next album.
