Overview

Grunwald Magnusson was always a lonely person, ever since childhood where he struggled to understand people. People were his antagonists. People were always interfering in his life. Why did his father give him this ridiculous name and leave him when he was only five years old? Only his father could tell him what to do with his life. He left him a coded message which took Grun months to decipher. The message was locked in a cabinet under the mirror which Grun was always frightened to look into. It had runic symbols running around it. His mother had given Grun the key when he turned twenty-one. Grun had found another key in the cabinet and a letter. The letter was from his father. It said he must begin the quest? After much work, Grun finally managed to find the hidden box. Why didn’t his mother know anything about it, or anything relevant about his father? She said she was told by Grun’s father never to sell the house and to give him the key.

Grun is on the threshold of something which will alter his life forever. The box which was buried in the outhouse under the floor contained an assortment of things. It would take Grun three years to even begin to understand them. The main thing was the book.

After another three months of decoding, he found the second letter hidden behind the fitted bookshelf. The letter said that he should stand in front of the mirror at a certain time and he would be given certain powers!

The time is the spring equinox. Grun stands in front of the mirror at twelve o clock. He meditates for several minutes with his eyes closed. When he opens them he can see a man writing a message on the inside of the mirror. He knows this man to be his father.

Grun has copied the message which remained for ten minutes after his father disappears. Grun is disappointed at not being able to talk with his father but he knows that his father has Grun’s welfare at heart. Grun starts to practice the exercises which were given him. The details are too secret to reveal here.

Scene three: Garden

The time is now 2.45 am. Grun is seated facing the back window with the lights out. He already knows Derek Weston to be hiding behind the large privet hedge at the end of the large garden. Grun has meditated for over an hour to try and understand why Derek Weston hated him so. He is told in no uncertain terms that it is a past life thing and has to be brought to a head. Grun wants to shout out to Derek that he should just go home and contemplate on what he was doing, but he knew it would have no real effect. Derek Weston would not let this go. His hatred would not let it, whatever Grun does now, will have an effect on the outcome. Karma will be worked out or built up. Grun knows he can’t stop him simply by shouting and he knows he will be building up his own Karma by fighting him as Grun will kill him for sure. He feels he should simply let things take effect and just watch. For some reason, Grun knows that Derek Weston will die that night. Grun’s father had put a protective force field around the house years before. Grun looked on in awe as Derek Weston runs up to within a few feet of the bedroom and lifts his arm to throw the petrol bomb.

Derek : (in a low voice)

This is for you, you son of a bitch.

The petro bomb is thrown. It was about to hit the glass when it suddenly rebounded at high speed and hits Derek Weston on the head shattering the glass and engulfing him in petrol. He runs screaming out of the garden and out of sight. Grun doesn’t attempt to go after him. He knows Derek Weston will be dead within a short time. His body is found in John Thompson’s pond a short distance away. The police came around to ask questions but they seemed to be in a confused state. Grun puts it down to his Dad’s involvement. Things were soon back to normal apart from one thing, Grun’s mum is dead.

Scene four: House

A few days later there is a knock at the door. John Thompson is stood there. He is not a bad neighbor but he has a drinking problem.

Grun:

John, nice to see you.

John:

Hello, Grun, can I have a word with you?

Grun:

Of course, come in.

John:

What a strange thing that was the other day.

Grun:

Yes, but the police seem to think it was just a hate crime gone wrong. You know he always hated me, John.

John:

No, I mean about the Dragon symbol found on the grass next to my pond.

Grun:

What?

John:

I haven’t told anyone yet. What do you think?

Grun: (Sits down and starts to look serious)

John:

Someone is bound to see it; it is about a foot round and burned into the grass. The Dragon is coiled around, like a sort of snake.

Grun:

I know the exact one. It is one of the ancient symbols.

John:

Yes, I know you were into that stuff as a kid. What does it mean?

Grun:

John, please cover it up and it will disappear in a short time.

John:

I’m not so sure. It looks very ingrained.

Grun:

Please try to understand. This symbol is a powerful thing. It can help or destroy.

John:

Yes, I remember your father once telling me to keep anything I saw to myself.

Grun:

Why? What did you see?

John:

I saw him out in the back one night drawing a circle around the house and sort of praying.

Grun:

John, please be careful with what you say to anyone.

John:

I won’t say a word, although I can’t be responsible for anyone finding the symbol.

Grun:

What do you mean?

John:

I will be honest with you, Grun, I need money. My wife left me and she wants money. I could sell my place but the housing market is bad at the moment.

Grun;

What are you getting at?

John:

I thought you might buy it. You could make it into a nice double house and also use that small part of my land at the rear.

Grun:

I have my mother’s funeral coming up.

John:

Yes, I know. Maybe you could use some of the insurance money. I don’t want to inform the papers about the symbol but as I said I really do need the money.

Grun: (is now getting agitated.)

John. I don’t want to buy your house. I don’t need it and I have to warn you, I have access to some powerful forces. Do yourself a favor and keep shut.

John:

I know your father was into that sort of thing, but you are a different sort of fish. I don’t think you would risk bringing the police and the media around here, would you?

Grun:

I won’t risk anything, but you would. Believe me, John.

John:

Well, I better be on my way. Please make an appointment with my solicitor about making an offer for my place. See you later, I need some liquid refreshment.

Grun knows that John has sealed his fate by releasing the Dragon, so to speak. Grun doesn’t need to do anything. Fate will do it. Three days later is Grun’s mum’s funeral. Anna was the only person besides Grun who attended.

Scene Five: Funeral

Anna: Grun, did you hear about John Thompson?

Grun: (did, but said no)

Anna:

They found him locked in his bedroom last night. He phoned his son to ask for help. When he got there he found no one around and the door locked.

Grun:

How do you know this?

Anna:

My cousin Jean is related to John’s son.

Grun:

What else did they find?

Anna:

I suspect you know.

Grun:

I do.

Anna:

Oh, Grun, what are you going to do?

Grun:

Nothing, if people want to make it harder on themselves let them.

Anna:

He was found with his eyes open and a look of terror on his face. There was also a mark around his neck. They said it was like the impression of a snake. Have the police been round to your house yet?

Grun:

No.

Anna:

I wonder why?

Grun:

I think they are scared, but they will come.

Anna:

Scared?

Grun:

For some reason, they are keeping a low profile. Did they find anything else at the house?

Anna:

Yes, they found a sort of symbol burned into the door.

Grun:

Oh, God.

Anna:

They said it was probably some sort of religious group similar to the Manson cult.

Grun:

I have to get away, Anna. What do you think of the plan to steal the relic?

Anna:

I have decided to help you, but I want it to happen on my day off. I will tell you where it is and how to disable the burglar alarms.

Grun;

Thank you, Anna. If all goes well we will be free and clear. I know this relic to be very powerful. Dad spent all his life trying to get it back. It is a key. I can’t tell you what for yet, just trust me. I want you to come away with me after we get it.

Anna:

How can I? Dad will miss me.

Grun:

You can always come back for a visit. You know we are linked together, don’t you?

Anna:

Yes, I feel it.

Grun:

We have been apart for too many lifetimes Anna. Now is the time to join my father.

Anna:

What do you mean?

Grun:

Have you read ‘Alice through the looking glass?

Anna:

That is just a fairy tale.

Grun:

There is more reality to fairy tales than you think.
