Oswald Boa-Amponsem was an INBS PhD program student in the laboratory who graduated in May 2020. His dissertation research focused on the role of the signlaing pathways underlying behavioral changes induced by ethanol and cannabinoids in zebrafish and mouse models of FASD. He was collaborating with Dr. Eric Fish and Scott Parnell at UNC to analyze the role of multiple binge exposures to ethanol and cannbinoids on mouse behavior.
Derek Burton is a recent MS student in the laboratory who earned his BS degree from East Carolina University. His research focused on assessing the effects of binge ethanol exposures on zebrafish behavior. He is currently conducting research in Dr. Kevin Williams lab at NCCU, analyzing the role of Shh signaling in FASD. Derek will begin a PhD program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences at UNC in 2019.
Chengjin Zhang, PhD, wa a Research Associate in the laboratory who left in Spring 2020 for a position at Syngenta. Her research interests are in the molecular and behavioral changes arising from ethanol exposure to zebrafish embryos, with a focus on identifying dissecting molecular pathways sensitive to ethanol exposure in zebrafish embryos. Outside the lab she has a husband employed in RTP and a son in elementary school.
Shanta Mackinnon is a Research Specialist/Lab Manager, who oversees the daily operation of the laboratory and ensures that our zebrafish are healthy and happy. She received her BS and MS degrees from NCCU in Biology. Outside the lab she is an exceptional couponer and crochets to relax.
Jared Frazier is a recent MS graduate of the lab. His research focused on the effect of binge-like ethanol exposurein zebrafish, correlating morphological changes in embryos to behavioral changes in adult zebrafish. He is currently preparing to apply to PhD programs in developmental biology. Outside the lab he is a well-dressed, sophisticated man who enjoys having a good time, and wearing costumes to sports events.
Princess Ojiaku is a recent MS graduate of the lab. She received her BS degree from LSU and following her thesis defense at NCCU she matriculated in a PhD program in Cognitive Neuroscience and MA in Public Policy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Outside the lab she is an accomplished musician and blogger (Science with Moxie)
