April 2026 Sheila Street and Cameron Kuch, new owners of Madawaska out of Nelson, BC, are looking for photos of how others have built dodgers for their boats. August 2024 Kris Freitag (Coast 34 - Hallie) writes: I'm trying to find the official HIN for this boat, and I can't find anything affixed to the stern. I did decipher some numbers in a locker that are apparently a British registration convention, but they aren't the HIN. I found a forum that said the first number is the (original, I assume) Official Number, and the second number is the Registered Tonnage. We now have a US Coast Guard Official Number as well, which is more useful, but it still leaves the HIN out of the picture.

Just wondering if there's something useful to be known about all this out in the world of Coast 34 owners? If anybody has information regarding HINs on Coast 34s please send me an email (crbennet at gmail DOT com) and I will post it to the site

August 23, 2022 Claus Andrup writes: I am a former owner of the the Randle Yacht Corporation/Cape Marine Corporation which followed Peter Randle's Marquis Marine. Between 1992 and 1996 I worked with Peter. At the time we had a wonderful rendition/painting of the Coast 34 at the shop which now hangs in my basement. The Coast 34 is a seaworthy double ender, most often sporting a cutter rig. It is a semi-custom boat based on the Roberts 341, which was designed by Grahame Shannon while he worked for the Bruce Roberts Design Group. Since about 1980 more than 50 have been built by various builders in British Columbia including Clearwater Marine, Cape Marine, Marquis Marine, and Randle Yachts. Profile

The side profile shows a 1/2 length keel with encapsulated ballast and a beefy skeg to protect the rudder. On many Coast 34s, the engine has been moved forward into a box under the companionway, which allows a regular, but short shaft to protrude from behind the keel, supported at the aft end by a strut. Other details that vary by boat include the number, size, and placement of portlights and location of chainplates.
