Founded in 1972, the Central New Jersey Alumnae Chapter celebrated its 50th year in April of 2022. The chapter was originally chartered in Trenton, NJ, on May 21, 1972.
Over the years, the chapter has participated in wide-ranging musical and educational programs, which have received national recognition. In the Fraternity’s centennial year, 2003, the chapter was awarded the Annelle Chandler McAdams Service Project Award, and received the Phi A Province Alumnae Chapter Achievement Award. The chapter was again awarded the Annelle Chandler McAdams Service Project Award in 2004 and 2005. In 2004, the chapter was also awarded the Region IV Music Education Award and Phi A Province Chapter Achievement Award, and was a commended Finalist for the National Music Education Award for a presentation on Dalcroze Eurhythmics at New Jersey City University, coordinated by Dr. Janice Van Alen. In 2005, the chapter was again recognized with the Region IV Music Education Award, and was the national winner of the National Alumnae Chapter Music Education Award, for sponsoring and organizing a workshop on the Orff-Schulwerk process at NJCU which Dr. Van Alen also organized.
Over the ensuing years, the chapter has maintained a Flute Ensemble which has performed at SAI events. The flute ensemble has offered programs to seniors and to elementary school students in Elizabeth and Freehold, NJ among others.
The chapter generally meets monthly, usually the third Sunday of the month, September through April (except December), and on a Saturday in May. Please review our current meeting schedule here. We meet in members' homes and, since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, virtually as well. This enthusiastic and friendly chapter has been a source of sisterhood and musical support to all its members, and welcomes all SAIs to visit and join the chapter, at any time.
