It was the school’s greatest need and its history also demanded that the school, then, had a very strong headship. The new millennium year – 2000, was a landmark in the history of the school with a new Head. Mrs. Lhaki T. Wangchuk joined the Changangkha family in August 2000. We warmly welcomed her on the 5th of August 2000 with great splendor. She worked with us until December 2004. Mrs. Phuntsho Lhamo then became the new Principal from February 2005 till December 2007. The school was then upgraded to Middle Secondary in the year 2012.The present Principal Mr. Nyendo joined our school formally on 19th February 2014.
Presently, we have an enrolment of 1072 students. There are 54 teachers and 14 non-teaching staff. There are classes from PP – X with a total of 28 sections that are accommodated in the four buildings. Apart from the academic studies, a series of co-curricular activities are carried out. The school’s main annual functions are the Sports Day, Concert, Inter-House Competitions, Cultural Activities, Games and Sports, Club Activities, Wall Magazine, Reading Week etc.
Changangkha Middle Secondary School’s history dates back to the early 1960s. It was the first school established at Changrona near Langjuphakha. It was then named Thimphu Primary School being the one and only school in the valley. In 1961 it was relocated to its present site to make way for a hospital construction at Changrona. The first Headmaster of the school was Mr. Singh. Mr. A. Dhar replaced him in 1970 who worked until 1973. Till then it bore the same name. Mrs. P. Namchu became the next Head in 1973 and it was during her tenure that the school was renamed Changangkha Primary School. She resigned at the end of 1987 and Mrs. T.N. Gurung joined the school in 1988 as the new Head. Mrs. Gurung headed the school until 1995. In 1996, Mrs. Kunzang Choden became the next Headteacher. That same year the school was upgraded to a Junior High School. Mrs. Kunzang Choden left the school in 1999 to pursue her studies in Australia. During her absence, Mr. Sonam Chogyel, then the Assistant Headteacher, was the officiating Head for about one and a half year.
Changangkha MSS has always maintained a good standard, both academically and otherwise. All the previous principals have laid good and sound foundation of the school, in one way or the other. It has developed in numerous ways. The school has achieved a good name and should still soar higher and higher and even for the BETTER in the times to come, under the present headship. We hope and pray that the school and its development will really accelerate under the leadership of the present Principal.
The school can boast of its location being in the heart of valley yet away from the hubbub of the town.
It’s a privileged school and all should realize this and more so, our school is OUR PRIDE!
