National Drive It Day “Scramble” at Bicester Heritage

test

A convoy of four Elans set out from Twyford before 08.00 for a pleasant if chilly drive to Bicester Heritage. None of us had been before and didn’t really know what to expect. Arriving at 09.00, what we found was the former RAF airfield rapidly filling up with interesting vehicles of every description and a goodly number of Lotus variants already lined up in a dedicated area. Further BBOA members arrived as did many cars from the other Lotus organisations. It was a tremendous turn out for the Marque. There were many excellent displays by other marques and car clubs too and I would be interested to hear what the organisers felt was the total attendance. The site is a real attraction for those interested in older and competition vehicles with the redundant airfield buildings being repurposed as specialist workshops and relevant businesses. Flying, gliding and associated activities still take place too. Ongoing works look set to enlarge this already significant Heritage Centre. Future events there are bound to be successful.

As the day warmed up the crowds increased and the plentiful catering outlets were doing great trade. Much interest in our cars was observed and also useful new contacts made.

For anyone interested in joining one of our regular meetings, on the second Monday each month, they will in future be held at The Royal Oak, Round The Hill, Knowl Hill, RG10 9YE. You will be very welcome.
