Welcome!
An ongoing project that I am working on right now is creating a "basic repertoire" list of contemporary music, a very underrepresented part in just about every classical music canon. With this list, I hope to achieve the following:
Advocate for contemporary music's incredible diversity, which, in my opinion, is greater than at any other point in history
Provide a kind of roadmap for anyone new to the genre through the tiered suggestions
Highlight some obscure works by well-known composers that even seasoned listeners may have missed
Show how each composer evolved through a chronological listing of their body of work, along with their critical/popularity "peaks"
Above all, refute any and all arguments that classical music somehow "died with Shostakovich"
Please check it out and let me know what you think!
Note: for clarification, my shorthand use of the words "contemporary music" is not a 100% precise term, but generally refers to music composed since around the mid-70s.
