In order to complete the exercises in Business Information Systems: Design an App for That published by www.flatworldknowledge.com you will need to customize this template for your students. Here's how:
Get a Gmail account. Then create a new site using Google Sites. The first option is to pick a template. Search for and select the ClassAppStore template. Like magic the template creates the entire site! It even creates the APP and SALES forms as well as the APP and SALES spreadsheets in your Google Docs account!
Customize the APP and SALES forms to capture the information you need for your class--that will automatically change the corresponding spreadsheets.
You will need the correct address for your SALES form. While editing your form, under the "Responses" menu choose "Get Pre-Filled URL" That will show you how Google names the parameters. Edit the Create Buy Button page and paste the pre-filled URL for your students to copy.
Before students start registering their apps, clear out the APP and SALES spreadsheets of the information automatically generated. In your Google Docs, go to your APP spreadsheet, highlight what is there and press Delete. In the SALES spreadsheet go to Raw Data (look at the tags at the bottom of the screen), highlight all but the title and one row and go to Edit > Delete Rows. Then highlight the final non-title row and go to Edit > Delete Values. The Top Selling page will look strange until students start to buy apps, then it returns to normal.
After the shopping is done give students access to the APP and SALES spreadsheets.
[optional] Edit the About Us page to include your contact information.
[Optional] Pick a new theme to match your school colors. Use More Actions > Manage Site >Themes. Try to pick a theme like Solitude that has multiple color variations so that your students can pick a variation that matches their App, but still be stylistically consistent with the store.
[Optional] Make a new logo and header in PowerPoint then capture it as a single PNG file. (Use the snipping tool or save as picture.) Replace the logo and header on this site using More Actions > Manage Site > Site Layout > Edit Logo.
[Optional] If desired, the page title (what appears at the top of the browser window) can be edited to match your class using More Actions > Manage Site > General and changing the Site Name.
[optional] Go to www.google.com/analytics and create a new account for your class. Then copy down the UA-XXXXXX-X web property ID number that it creates for your site. Example: Add that ID number to your site using More Actions > Manage Site > General > Statistics. (Be very careful not to include any trailing spaces). After your students have created their sites, but before they begin to purchase, give them the very same ID number to add to their site. Then analytics will view all of your sites as though they form one big store.
[optional] You will also need to download the Google Analytics report and give them that as well. In Google Analytics use View Report > Content Overview > View Report > View Full Report > Show Rows > 500. Give them both the PDF and the Excel versions of the report. With some careful massaging, they should be able to import the Excel version into Access and match it with the SALES spreadsheet using the URL as the matching key. The URL in the SALES spreadsheet will need to be trimmed using a substring function because Google Analytics only stores /site/sitename.
