Carolyn Barela - Composer (ASCAP)

Carolyn Barela is a pianist and multi-media composer with a passion to immerse an audience completely in a film experience with thoughtfully crafted and engaging audio.

"For as long as I can remember, I've had a love for music.  I began playing songs at the age of two and composing by the age of ten, with a wide range of influences from classical to contemporary.  In 2002, I first learned about sequencing software and MIDI and began to experiment with multi-tracking.  Over the past two decades, I have honed my skills by scoring industry videos and composing music for sync, which eventually led me to pursue other professional opportunities.  To date, I have had multiples songs placed with film libraries, and have had several songs under consideration for major film opportunities in both the U.S. and the U.K.  In 2016, I entered and won an award in my first film scoring competition, The Indie Gathering Film Scoring Competition 2016.  In 2017, I won an Honorable Mention in the International Horror Hotel Film Scoring Competition, and placed in the Top 12 of over 300 participants in the Indie Gathering Film Scoring Competition.  In the 2018 Marvin Hamlisch Film Scoring Contest, CINE, in partnership with the Alliance for Women Film Composers, presented me with the '2018 Emerging Composer Diversity Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition."  In 2023, my instrumental "Celestial Lullaby (Organic)" ft the very talented duo at String Fever Studio was a finalist in the 2023 Inter Continental Music Awards for best contemporary instrumental in America, as well as a Bronze Medal Winner in the Global Music Awards Fall 2023 Contest.  Most recently, I scored a promotional spacecraft video for NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and have also worked with Friday Pop Cafe as a songwriter and composer/arranger.

On the business end, I have a demonstrated track record of meeting deadlines, working well under pressure, resolving challenges, and being customer-focused with a continued enthusiasm to learn more and push my creative boundaries.  I am experienced in generating itemized cost estimates, so project costs will be well-outlined to you in advance.  But, most of all, I have a passion to create and share music that is moving, inspiring, and memorable so that audiences will walk away from your project with a positive and lasting impression and want to come back for more."
