Field of Ph.D. Research:
My research work was on the applications of room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) in non-aqueous nuclear fuel reprocessing and waste management. The electrochemical studies carried out with lanthanides and actinides in RTILs proved the possibility of Electrodeposition of Europium and Uranium in the metallic state from their oxides Eu2O3 and UO2, respectively.
My research findings also confirmed the possibility of recovering valuable metals such as uranium and palladium from tissue paper waste using RTILs and the task-specific property of RTILs were utilized for the separation of UO3, UO2 and U3O8 from a mixture containing them by varying the experimental conditions.
The possibility of using RTIL as an alternative electrolyte for high-temperature molten salt studies in non-aqueous reprocessing and also as solvents for waste treatment were explored in my Ph.D. work.
