I would like to provide an update on the Medication Consistency Pilot Program. I'm pleased to share that we are working with almost 10 county jails to implement data exchange platforms that will allow the jail staff to access medication-specific information for inmates. This will ensure that the inmate is treated in an efficient manner, resulting in better health outcomes both during incarceration and when they transition to the community.
Currently, the state HIE's (Health Information Exchange) organizations, CORHIO (Colorado Regional Health Information Organization) and QHN (Quality Health Network) are working to establish this process and start exchanging this data in the coming months. We are working with jails throughout Colorado from small to large size. We are also selecting two small jails (one on the western slope and one on the eastern plains) to participate in a pharmacy telehealth program that allows the jail staff and inmate to virtually share medication history to ensure medications are taken safely. We will provide updates on this program as it continues to evolve in the coming months.
Though we are only selecting 10 pilot sites for the health information exchange program; we would like to encourage ALL jails to participate in the medication discount pricing option called the Bulk Purchasing Program through MMCAP (Minnesota Multistate Contracting Alliance for Pharmacy), which is a FREE, voluntary group purchasing organization for government facilities that provide healthcare services.
