I am an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management.

My research interests include labor and development, with a particular focus on the causal relationship between labor supply and innovation. My work centers on innovation, knowledge spillovers, immigration, migration, and ethnic diversity. I am interested in investigating empirical evidence from economic history and historical events such as World War I, the Immigration Quota Acts, the Civil War, and the Killing Fields.

I received my Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. I earned a M.A. from Georgia State University, and a B.A. from Seoul National University. I also worked for four years with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA, the South Korean government’s foreign assistance agency), and spent two years in Cambodia.
