THIS IS A STAIRCASE I DESIGNED AND DREW AS A RESULT OF THE SKILLS I LEARNED WORKING FOR A STAIRCASE RAILING CO. WHILE WORKING THERE I LEARNED THAT STAIRCASES ARE UNIQUE IN THAT THEY ARE MECHANICAL IN NATURE AND TYPICALLY MADE UP OF MECHANICAL PARTS VERY MUCH LIKE A MACHINE. TYPICALLY A MACHINE IS ALL ABOUT PARTS IN MOTION. WITH A STAIRCASE THE SITUATION IS THE INVERSE OR OPPOSITE , IT IS DESIGNED TO NOT MOVE. THIS PRESENTS VARIOUS CHALLENGES TO THE DESIGNER AND THUS MY FASCINATION. I HOPE TO DO MORE STAIRCASES IN THE FUTURE BUT FOR TODAY THIS ONE IS ENOUGH.
This is a model loosely fashioned after a model 8S capsule filler input shaft. I wanted to do a drawing/model/video of a mechanical assembly that had enough geometry to be interesting All of the threads are correct to the Unified thread form. All of the threads are 1/4-20 except for the Zerk fittings which are 10-32. Specific definitions can be found on the 2D drawings at the bottom of the page.
Next I would like to finish the rest of the assembly and animate it.
This is a simple staircase I made to show the transition from Drawing to Model to Video of the model.
