CLASSMATE: Nancy (Bowman) Garcia, passed on Wed. Sep. 17, 2018
2 Emails from Cheryl Beasley & Kinda Kinney below.
Hi John and Linda,
Barb Rhoades called me to tell me Nancy Bowman Garcia passed away Friday May 8. Barb called today and said Nancy wanted no visitation, no service and no announcement in the papers. John, thought you might want to put this on our web page. Linda, I know you try to keep track of our classmates. Nancy lately has not wanted people to see her and be with her. Feel bad about this. I have been getting nice Christmas cards from her. Had nice talks with her when her dad and stepmom passed away.
Cheryl Beasley
Hi Cheryl and John,
We have been up at our cabin in Minnesota for three weeks and just got back last night.
We had a text from our son saying that Mary Lou Bowman Coury contacted him and wanted us to know about Nancy. Nancy is actually Glenn's second cousin and we see her and her husband quite frequently. In fact, we saw her about a month ago at a visitation in Adrian for another cousin's 55 year old wife!
I know no details about what happened. Mary Lou told our son that she had been hospitalized around Mother's Day. I DO think that she passed on Friday, June 8th from a vague posting from another cousin on Facebook. You are right, Nancy told me several times that she would not come to our gatherings, but she always asked about them and her friends. When we last saw her, she was going to have surgery on one of her knees that was bothering her. Her husband, Hector, will be devastated. She also had two children, a boy and a girl and two grandsons (I think)
We were so sorry to get this news. Thank you for thinking to pass it along. We all need to keep in touch. This is our third loss since the 50th: Don, Jerry Whiteman and now Nancy.
Linda

George D. Bowman
1922-2014
Sad News, a classmate's parent passes away.. Dennis Bowman's father, George. D. Bowman, passed away on January 13, 2014. Visitation is Jan. 14th, Wed. tomorrow.
George Deloss Bowman
(December 10, 1922 - January 13, 2014)
United States Army Veteran WWII
George Deloss Bowman was born December 10, 1922 to Cecile (Johnson) Bowman and Clarence L. Bowman and died on January 13, 2014 at age 91. He will always be remembered by his family as a patriot and as the patriarch not only of his family, but of his community.
He spent the first few years of his life in Bloomfield Hills before moving with his family to a farm on Lemm Road in Manchester. He attended high school in Clinton, graduating in the Class of 1941. On October 17, 1942, he married Margaret (McDermott) Bowman. They celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2012, and she preceded him in death in August, 2013.
He was drafted in the Army during World War II and served with the 1881st Aviation Engineers in New Guinea and the Philippines. His service to his country was a source of pride to him as well as his family and the community. For over 35 years he proudly carried the American flag in nearly all of the parades held in Clinton.
After returning home from the war, George returned to Clinton, and there he and Margaret raised their 5 children, Dennis (Paula), Barbara (Steven Stack), Timothy (Sheila Bork), Kevin (Carolyn), and Mary Kirby (Evan). He had 9 grandchildren (Colleen, Caroline, Beth, Amy, Matthew, Erika, Lucas, Alexander and Molly) and 7 great grandchildren (Thomas, Michael, Jacob, Kylee, Amber, Ellie and Nora).
After the war, George owned and operated a gas station in Clinton. After a few years, he went to work for Ford Motor Company, while attending classes at Eastern Michigan University and Walsh College in the evening. He was loaned in 1977 by Ford to be the guest of the Argentine government to consult with them on automotive production. He retired as an executive from Ford in 1982.
He holds the record for having served as Village President of Clinton for the longest amount of time. While serving as Village President, he ushered Clinton into the modern era by paving streets and installing curbs, gutters and street lights throughout the Village, and was instrumental in obtaining the Smith-Kimball home for use as Clinton's community center.
Retirement did not mean an end to public service. He served on the Board of Directors of Saline Hospital for 12 years. While there he helped them cut their budget to again become a profitable hospital. He also became active in the VFW and served as their Quartermaster and also was active in the American Legion. He also served on the Financial Committee of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Until just a few years ago, he could be seen each year selling poppies for the VFW and Tootsie Rolls for the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed fine woodworking, fishing and was a handyman extraordinaire.
When asked what he was most proud of in his life, George replied that he was the proudest of his family and his career.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Almont, Alton, Bond, Rolland, Llewellyn, Maurice, and Clarence, and by his sister, Annabelle Spencer.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, from 4-8 PM at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes, with a vigil service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 16, at St. Dominic Chapel in Clinton, Michigan. He will lie in state from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. I wish you a day of ordinary miracles----
A fresh pot of coffee
you didn't make yourself.
An unexpected phone call
from an old friend.
Green stoplights on your
way to work or shop.
I wish you a day of
little things to rejoice in...
The fastest line at the grocery store.
A good sing along song on the radio.
Your keys right where you look.
I wish you a day of
happiness and perfection--
I wish you little bite-size pieces of perfection that give you the funny
feeling that someone is smiling on you, holding you so gently because you
are someone special and rare.
I wish You a day of Peace,
Happiness and Joy.
Remember to Make the Time TODAY,
To do something Special
for a Total Stranger.
Have a TERRIFIC day
Make it a Great Day!!!
