About Me
Born over sixty years ago in the south west region of the United Kingdom I spent my early years in Cornwall before the family emigrated to England in 1962.
An accomplished pianist from the age of 4, a high achiever at school (both academically and on the sports field) followed by success at A Level and then a First Class degree from Oxbridge. These were just a few of my parents’ hopes and dreams which I, inevitably, failed to live up to!
Instead, following a far from mediocre school career and a year at college, I became a TV repair man! After eleven years of passive smoking, treading on dog s*** in peoples' living rooms and failing to get off with any lonely housewives, I decided to take redundancy. Kerching!
After a few weeks holiday I started a new job servicing CCTV cameras - outside in all weather conditions - up poles, on high buildings and even concealed in trees. I managed to survive one cold winter in that job before being rescued by my best friend and I began a new role maintaining small office telephone systems, fax machines, etc.
At this time I also moved away from Kent – having left the family home in 1989 and living in a bed-sit in Maidstone for a while – to rural East Sussex. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the region, if you think of the weather map of the UK on television, East Sussex is the bit in the bottom right hand corner with a picture of the sun on it! After several years of enjoyable work, driving hundreds of thousands of miles and being transferred to another company, I was made redundant once more. Result!
I endured almost four months in the unemployment wilderness – receiving over £50 a week pocket money from the Government, getting discounts at cinemas, the sports centre and some shops – until, once again, I was back in work. On this occasion I had been recommended by two former colleagues (to whom I will remain eternally grateful) and I began a new job maintaining large telephone systems and, more recently, internet networks too. An extremely high salary - to fund several cars and a playboy lifestyle - was just what I was hoping for but, sadly, this was not to be! Having said all that, from June 2003 until December 2016 I had a great job and spent my spare time travelling the world and supporting Hastings United.
I have now retired from paid work and devote a lot of my time helping some of the less fortunate people in society.
