Troubleshooting Logging On

  • Bottom line: Are you logged into Google with the right account?

    • Background: CHF is hosted on Google Sites, which is in the family of Google products. Access by members to the site is protected by logging into the Google account associated with your CHF membership. Most often, problems can occur when people have more than one Google account. Google keeps you signed in with a certain Google account until you sign out. Therefore, if you are registered in CHF with one Google account, and then email or perform some other activity in another Google account, you won't be able to access the CHF site until you log back into your CHF-registered account.

    • If you've never had a Google account before, Google will ask if you want your primary email as a username for your account (e.g. joepublic@myemail.com). This will work fine, unless you decide later you want Gmail among your services. Then you will need another, new Google account with a unique Gmail name (e.g. joepublic@gmail.com). Now you have two accounts, which can be a source of confusion to which one is being used for what. Once you have done so, we recommend you go ahead and contact the webmaster (chfwebmaster@gmail.com) to switch your CHF Google account to the one with Gmail.

      • Recommendation: Use your favorite Google account with CHF.

Member Forum (Discussion Group)

    • Member Forum location is here.

    • Reading posts

      • New messages will show up in bold

      • "Pinned" or "sticky" message show up at the top. These are set by the administrators, although generally, anyone can post to them.

    • Posting new messages

      • Depending on how the particular forum is set up, messages can be posted to either to the group via the group page, or directly by email, or both.

      • Posting via the group page allows one to more easily organize posts by subject, by replying in the appropriate thread. Searching for a particular keyword is also much easier in the web interface.

      • Posting directly via email is possible for some forums, but messages will not be tagged or organized.

    • Current CHF Google groups open to members.

      • chf_member: Discussion forum for members. Email or web posting.

      • chf_coop: Discussion forum for members in co-op. Web posting only.

      • chf_interest (read only): Announcement group for members and the public.
