Glove Compartment Removal
Set parking brake.

Select rearmost driving range position.
Remove side instrument panel covers. Refer to → Chapter „Instrument Panel Side Covers“.
Pull right side instrument panel cover -1- out of locking tabs.
Pull left side instrument panel cover -2- out of locking tabs.

Remove footwell covers. Refer to → Chapter „Footwell Covers“

Switch off ignition.

Pry passenger side footwell cover -1- out of mountings near the clips -2- using wedge -T10039/1-.
Pull cover out of rear mountings.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the footwell light -3-.
Remove the bolt -4-.
Pry driver side footwell cover -5- out of mountings near the clip -6- using wedge -T10039/1-.
Pull cover out of rear mountings.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the footwell light -7-.
Separate wiring harness -8- from the diagnostic connector -9-.

For vehicles without navigation or radio, pry radio block-off cover -1- out of bracket using wedge -T10039/1-.
If radio -2- is installed, remove it. Refer to → Communication; Rep. Gr.91.
If navigation display and operating unit -3- is installed, remove it. Refer to → Communication; Rep. Gr.91.
Radio Navigation System 2 with 6.5 inch Color Display
Note
Replacement part number for complete radio navigation system is located on a sticker on the radio navigation system housing.
Ask the customer for the radio navigation system code number before removing. If radio navigation system is replaced, always activate anti-theft coding. Refer to → Owner's Manual. The customer must be informed of the new code number.

If a radio navigation system from one vehicle is to be installed in another vehicle, then always make sure that radio navigation systems of both vehicles have the same replacement part number. Otherwise navigation system will malfunction since the setting of the rotation angle sensor in radio navigation system does not match the vehicle.
Special tools and workshop equipment required

Radio Removal Tool -T10057-
Removing
Before starting repair work, perform the following:

Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.
Now, perform the following work procedure:

Insert Radio Removal Tool -T10057- into release openings -arrows- until they engage.
Top L - upper and lower left.
Top R - upper and lower right.

Remove radio navigation system from instrument panel using removal tool gripping rings -arrows-.
Press connector lock -1- together and then pull catches up in direction of arrow -2-.
Release and disconnect remaining electrical connectors.
To remove tools:
–
Press spring -arrow- and remove radio removal tool.
Installing
–
–
Reconnect connectors on radio navigation system.
Slide radio navigation system straight into instrument panel until it engages in installation bracket.
Note
While sliding in the radio navigation system, do not press on the display or control buttons under any circumstances because the radio navigation system may be damaged by doing this.

Check coding of radio unit and code radio unit again if necessary.

Remove air conditioning operating unit -4-. Refer to → Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning; Rep. Gr.87.
Before working on electrical system, remove relevant fuses → Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component locations

The radio or navigation unit must be removed first depending on which option. Refer to → Communication; Rep. Gr.91.
Depending on which type of seat is fitted heated or non–heated unclip either the cover or both outer switches from the switch panel.

The switch panel has been removed completely for better illustration.

Press control unit locking device in direction of arrow and slide control unit out forward.

Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:
Note
When installing the front operating unit ensure that no force is exerted on temperature and air distribution (Econ) regulators. Excessive force may break the predetermined breaking point impact protection of the rotary regulators.
There are two existing variations of the trim -1-:

Trim with threaded pin -4- and lock washer -5-.
Trim without threaded pin and lock washer.
Note
For a better overview, the lock washer -5- is shown partially removed in the illustration. When installed, the lock washer is accessible through the radio opening, but not visible.

Reach through the radio opening and determine by touch if the trim possesses a threaded pin -7- and a lock washer -5-.
Trim with threaded pin and lock washer

Reaching through the radio opening, use a small screwdriver to pry the wings -6- of the lock washer -5- up and pull off the lock washer -5- from the threaded pin -4-.

Make sure the lock washer does not fall into the cockpit.
The lock washer -5- is destroyed during removal. It must be replaced for assembly.
If the vehicle was equipped with trim without a threaded pin and lock washer and the trim is exchanged for replacement trim with a threaded pin and lock washer, the securing clip in the area of the threaded pin must be removed before assembly.
Check if the middle of the trim is equipped with a securing clip in the area of the threaded pin. If not, a securing clip must be supplemented at this position.
After installing the trim -1- push on the new lock washer -5- in the illustrated position until it is pressed against the surface (do not turn).

Pry trim strip -1- out of mounting using wedge -T10039/1- and detach adjusting wheel -2- from trim strip.
Disconnect adjusting wheel housing from wiring harness if vehicle has vent illumination.
Using a small screwdriver, push latch mechanism -3- forward in direction of travel and remove ignition key.
Pry trim molding -7- out of mountings using the wedge -T10039/1-.
Pry trim molding -8- out of mounting using wedge -T10039/1- and remove the adjusting wheel -9-.
Disconnect adjusting wheel housing from wiring harness if vehicle has vent illumination.

Remove bolts -1-, -2-, -3-, -4-, -5- and -6-.
Note
When frame is being installed, bolts must be installed in this order.

Remove frame -7- from instrument panel and disconnect wiring harnesses (depending on vehicle equipment) from switch strip.
The two screws -8- and cover -9- do not have to removed from glove compartment when removing.

Remove lining mat -1- from glove compartment.
Note
Depending on version, the bolt -3- may also be a component part of the footwell cover. In this case, the bolt is already removed.

Remove the bolts -2-, -3-, -4- and -5-.
Note
When driver side trim is being installed, bolts must be installed in this order.

Separate driver side trim -6- from instrument panel and disconnect release from parking brake -7-.
Disconnect rotary light switch and headlamp range regulator from respective wiring harnesses.

Remove bolts -1- (Qty. 13) and separate front passenger side trim -2- from instrument panel.
Note
The vehicle wallet compartment is fastened to the passenger side trim with two bolts. Both of these bolts do not need to be removed.

Disconnect contact switch for glove compartment light from wiring harness.
Disconnect glove compartment light from wiring harness.
Installation
–
To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
