Computer Knows Everything

Part 1. Who knows?

A long time ago there lived a Wise Man. People came to him to get answers:

How do I make bread?

How can I cure a desease?

How many stars are there in the sky?

The Wise Man was the only one who knew.

Slide 1.1

A hut. The wise man is sitting in front of his hut. He is old, crooked, bald, with a long beard. There is a line of 3 people: a small child, a long slouching man and a fat woman.

Time went by, and people started using books.

Slide 1.2

A library. The child and a woman are sitting at a table, reading their books. There is a pile of books on this table. At the second table, the tall man is standing. Slouching and reading a book.

Where do you find information now?

COMPUTERS!

Slide 1.3

An appartment. A child and a woman are sitting across each other. A child is working at a computer with a flat monitor, the woman is at the computer with old big monitor. The tall man is on the sofa with his feet on a coffee table and a laptop on his knees

When people invented computers, the computers were HUGE.

Slide 1.4

A machine of size of a building with lots of blinking lights. It's clumpy and unhappy. It's holding a tiny monitor with green screen. A bunch of people in white robes are staring at the screen

Now even a tiniest computer is a thousand times more powerful than the old computer invented 50 years ago.

Slide 1.5

A race. The big old computer is running behind. It's sweating, the blinking lights make a sad tortured face. Far ahead is the laptop with a smiley on his screen and tiny legs. The laptop arms are raised victoriously – it is about to cross the “Finish” line

Computers nowdays are fast, powerful and very knowledgeable.

How come computers know so much?

They don't read books

They don't go to school

Their parents don't teach them!

The secret of computers knowing so much lies in ... SUPER COMPUTER

There lives a Super Computer somewhere. All other computers go to him to get the answers.

Slide 1.6

Two slides side by side. The first one is the original one with a line of people in front of a hut with a Wise Man. The second slide is analogous: 3 computers which were used by the family (flat screen, chunky monitor and a laptop) are standing in line in front of a Super Computer (With a logo Google?) The Super Computer is shiny, big, friendly and has a small beard. It should have a unique look since it will show up a lot in further slides

Part 2. Super Computer

Paul and Lilly sat at a computer.

Slide 2.1

A boy and a girl looking at the computer screen

'Computer, tell me: what is the largest animal is!?' Lilly asked

'The Whale' the computer answered and showed them a picture of a whale with a fountain spurting from its back

Slide 2.2

A boy and a girl looking at the computer screen which shows the whale with the fountain

'Computer, how tall is the tallest man?'

'His name is Robert Pershing Wadlow, he is 8 feet and 11 inches tall.' the computer said and showed them a picture of the tallest man

Slide 2.3

Picture of the tallest man on the screen

'Computer, show me America!'

The computer showed them the a map of the United States of America.

Slide 2.4

Split in 3 – two on top and one at the bottom. The top parts have pictures of whale and the photo of the tallest man. The bottom part has US map

'This computer knows everything!' Paul exclaimed.

'Computer, how come you know so much?' Lilly asked the computer.

'I ask Super Computer, He knows,' the computer answered. 'You ask me a question, I ask Super Computer and tell you what He tells me.'

'Tell us more about Super Computer' the children asked.

'No problem, let me just ask Super Computer for more information.' the computer answered.

'HELLO' the kids suddenly heard a roar.

Slide 2.5

Kids and a Super Computer in the room. It is slick, big, shiny, with a small beard.

'Who is this?'

'It is I, The SUPER COMPUUUTER. Would you like to know the Secret of my wisdom?

Come with me!'

Suddenly Paul and Lilly felt a rush, they were falling somewhere and spinning

Slide 2.6

Paul and Lilly falling and spinning somewhere

And then falling again, and spinning again, until they stopped falling and spinning.

It was a very quiet and dark place.

Slide 2.7

Just black screen

'Let me turn on the light!' the Super Computer said.

Slide 2.8

On the left there is a huge construction with shelves. It goes into distance – shelves and shelves and shelves. On the right the Super Computer is standing surrounded by Paul and Lilly. There are strange spider-like creatures – crawlers, crawling with baskets attached to their back. They look funny and attractive. Some crawlers have baskets filled with piles of books, pictures and notes (information). The ones who crawl with the baskets full, stop by Super Computer to find out where to put the information. Then they crawl to the construction and put information into shelves. Then they crawl back with the empty baskets, back to the right and out of the view.

'Oh wow!' Paul said

'Oh wow!' Lilly said. 'What is this place? Who are these creatures with baskets?!'

'They are Crawlers,' the Super Computer answered. 'They collect information, such as stories, books, news, pictures, and music and bring it here. I look at the information and tell them on which shelf to put it, so that I know how to find it when somebody asks for it.

One of the Crawlers approached Super Computer with his basket loaded with pictures of Pandas.

Slide 2.9

One of the Crawlers approached Super Computer with his basket loaded with pictures of Pandas.

'Hello, whassup?' he said to Paul and Lilly.

'Look at all these Panda pictures!' Lilly exclaimed 'Where did you get them?!'

'The Crawler got it from the Internet: a World Wide Web,' Super Computer said.

Slide 2.10

A map of the world wrapped in a web

All over the world special computers called Servers are connected to each other through a special Net. The Servers store information about all kinds of things. The Crawlers crawl the net, collect this information from the Servers and bring it here.

Slide 2.6? again

'Put your Pandas on Shelf 325 and come back. I want Paul and Lilly to crawl the Net with you.' the Super Computer said to the Crawler.

'Sounds like tons of fun!' the Crawler exclaimed and crawled to the shelves.

He was back with three empty baskets: one for him and two for the children

Slide 2.11

The Crawler with empty basket on its back and holding two empty baskets

The children attached the baskets to their backs.

'Let's Crawl!' the Crawler said.

'Why can't we just walk?' Lilly asked.

'It gets narrow down there, gotta crawl!' the Crawler answered.

The children got on their hands and knees and followed the Crawler.

Slide 2.12

All three crawling

Slide 2.13

Some tunnels with crossings

Ok, we turn right here and this will get us to China. After that we turn right and we are in India. Piece of cake!' the crawler exclaimed

The group turned left and crawled for several seconds. They came out in a hall with a Chinese flag hanging in the middle of it.

Slide 2.14

A hall with Chinese symbols around. All over there are round entrances going all different directions

'Great, we are in China! Next turn is India!' Crawler said.

'China? We are in China already?!' the kids exclaimed.

'Yes, the Internet is very fast, we crossed the ocean in a fraction of a second.'the Crawler replied.

They turned right and ended up in a different hall with Indian gods and sweet music in the background.

Slide 2.15

A hall with Indian symbols around. All over there are round entrances going all different directions

The children following the Crawler turned another left and ended up in a room full of pictures of Indian Elephants.

Slide 2.16

A snippet of a web site about elefants. The Crawler and the children are at the bottom of the page looking up

'Here we are!' the crawler said. 'You collect the pictures, and I'll collect the stories about Elephants.'

Slide 2.17

The Crawler and the children are making copies of pictures and text

The children stuck the pictures in their baskets.

'We are done, let's go back!' the Cawler said. His basket was full of different elephant stories.

Slide 2.18

They crawled back to the Super Computer.

Slide 2.21

Shelves, Super Computer and children with Crawler ahead of them, their baskets full

'Did you have fun?' the Super Computer asked

'Oh yes!' the kids replied.

Super Computer glanced at their baskets.

'You put yours on Shelf 2334, and you put yours on Shelf 1203' he said to the Crawler and the children.

The children crawled to the structure with shelves. They had to use a ladder to get to their shelf.

Slide 2.22

Shelves, Children are going up the ladder, the cell there are going to is marked 1203

Part 3. Super Computer answering questions

They came back to the Super Computer

'Super Computer! How far is it from the Earth to the Moon?' a computer approached a super computer

'Just a microsecond!' the Super Computer replied and whistled.

Immediately a creature appeared.

Slide 3.1

Super Computer and kids. The creature, with glasses and wings, is standing in front of Super Computer.

'This is my Search Helper,' the Super Computer said. 'Please go to Shelf 5343 and tell this computer the distance from the Earth to the Moon.

'Will do!' the Search Helper reported, flapped his wings, and disappeared.

'Super Computer! What is the largest Indian Animal?' another computer asked.

'Just a microsecond!' Super Computer whistled again

Another Search Helper showed up

'Shelves 2334 and 1203' the Super Computer commanded.

The kids could see how the Search Helper flew to the construction, got the information from the shelves, and flew to the computer who was asking a question.

Slide 3.2

Search helper, like a fly, in front of a shelf, retrieving information

'How can you remember all these shelves?' Paul asked

'I have a good memory.' the Super Computer replied, smiling.

Slide 3.3

Just Children and Super Computer, smiling

'I think it's time for you to go home' the Super Computer said.

The children didn't even get a chance to say thank you. They felt a rush and started spinning and rising.

Slide 3.4

Children spinning and rising (opposite to 2.4)

And spinning and rising

Until they got to their room

Slide 3.5

Children in their computer room, a little disoriented, hair messed up.

'Wow, what a trip!' Lilly said.

'Now we understand how it all works.' Paul said.

- Day and night, Crawlers crawl the internet, collect all the information and bring it to the Super Computer.

Slide 3.6

A world map with a net and crawlers crawling all over the world with baskets full of information

-The Super Computer tells them on which shelf to put it.

Slide 3.7

A Super Computer directing a line of Crawlers with baskets full

When we ask our computer a question, let's say about Indian Elefants

Our computer asks Super Computer

Slide 3.8

A regular computer standing near Super Computer, asking a question

Super Computer calls Search Helper and asks Search Helper to take the information from the specific shelf

Slide 3.9

A Search helper taking information from the shelf

And bring it to our computer

Slide 3.10

A Search helper giving a stack of papers to the computer

And our computer displays the information on the screen

Slide 3.11

Search results with pictures of elefants and information about them

And it makes us think that Computer knows everything!

Slide 3.12

Final slide. For example, a line of people waiting to ask a computer a question. For example a computer can take a role of the wise man, sitting in the arm chair. Could be something different too
