Hi and welcome! I am a professor in political science (specialising in International Relations) at the Centre for International Studies (CERI) at Sciences Po. Before moving to Paris, I was an associate professor at the Swedish Defence University and an academy fellow at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University.
My research is about multilateralism on the ground, peacekeeping operations, norms, cultures and civil-military relations. In particular, my research agenda revolves around multilateral governance and management of peace and security across different regions. My two main areas of expertise are (1) multilateralism on the ground, multinational governance and management of peace and security (UN peacekeeping, dynamics of transformations of multinational interventions with increased participation of non- Western contributors, and search and rescue missions at sea in particular) and (2) civil – military relations and the transformation of the state. In my research, I often study micro-dynamics and embark on extensive fieldwork. I also write about methods, in particular about case study research, reflexivity and what causality means in qualitative research.
My work has been published in the European Journal of International Relations, Global Studies Quarterly, European Journal of International Security, Security Studies, Armed Forces and Society, European Political Science Review, Small Wars and Insurgencies, Comparative European Politics and Acta Sociologica among others. I am the author of "Military Cultures in Peace and Stability Operations" (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2018, 3rd prize at ERGOMAS) and of "Composing Peace. Mission Composition in UN Peacekeeping" (with Vincenzo Bove and Andrea Ruggeri, Oxford University Press, 2020, short listed for the Best Book Prize at the Conflict Research Society)
My work has been funded by the European Commission, the Royal Swedish Academy, the Swedish Research Council (VR), the Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life and Welfare (FORTE), the Fulbright Commission and the Scientific Advisory Board at Sciences Po.
I am part of the editorial board at Security Studies, Critique Internationale, International Studies Perspectives, Australian Journal of Political Science, International Spectator and Armed Forces and Society.
