An easy way to cut clean holes in auto carpet to install seat bolts and seatbelt bolts.
I had a 3/4" hole saw bit that was dull from cutting hard steel. I ground the teeth to make a bevelled edge.
As I progressed I used each new hole to maintain the carpet profile on the floor. It helps to screw a bolt in the hole so it does not slide around.
Here the clean, sharp hole has been made. No loose threads or slashed fingertips from razor blades or utility knife.
Find a sharp awl or a sacrificial old screwdriver and grind it to a sharp point. Use it to locate the hole.
Remove the old drill bit from the hole saw. That will leave a pocket for the probe.
Now you can install the seat without winding a ball of thread around the bolt.
It does not matter if you make the hole from the top or underside of the carpet.
