SUBMITTING ELECTRONIC AUDITIONS
Recording
See below for audition requirements.
Brass and woodwind players should prepare three videos: one for scales, and one for each solo. Percussionists will need to prepare four videos: one for snare rudiments, one for your mallet scale, one for the snare etude, and one for the mallet etude.
Record using a smartphone or other video recording device.
At the beginning of each video, please state what you will play (which scale, name of the piece and composer, etc.).
At the beginning of ONE of your videos, please state what school district and school you attend, along with what grade you will be in during the 2019-2020 school year.
Uploading Video
Click the Upload link at the top of any http://www.YouTube.com page.
Click the Upload video button to browse for your audition video. Select the file you want to upload and click Open.
As the video file is uploading, create video Title in the following format:
[Your name] CCYWE Fall [Year] - [Music played in video]
Examples: Jane Doe CCYWE Fall 2019 - Scales -OR- John Smith CCYWE Fall 2019 - Mallet Etude
Next, scroll to the Privacy section of the page. You will see the option to mark you video as “unlisted”, “public”, or “private”. Select unlisted – this will allow access to only those whom you choose to share the link with.
Click the Save changes button to save your updates.
From the Share button, copy the link to your video.
Paste the link in an email to chescoywe@gmail.com (please only send ONE email per student) and include the following information:
Your name
Instrument
The list of scales you chose to play (brass & woodwind)
The names and composers of the pieces you played (if any pieces came from a book, please tell us the title of the book)
Your YouTube links (three or four links depending on your instrument)

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
Brass and Woodwinds:
All students must play, from memory, a concert B-flat scale and a chromatic scale, at least 1 octave each. A specific tempo is not required, but a steady tempo is strongly encouraged. Playing multiple octaves is encouraged when possible.
Students must choose 3 other major scales to play, also from memory.
All students must play two excerpts of their choice, each at least 16 measures in length. One excerpt should demonstrate lyrical playing, while the other should demonstrate technical ability. These excerpts do not need to memorized, but students should provide an additional copy of the music for the adjudicator. Music Teachers: Students must be capable of playing Grade 2 Concert Band literature at minimum.

Percussion:
Students must audition on both snare drum and mallets
Snare drum: Students must demonstrate, from memory, proper technique of the following rudiments: paradiddle, flam, flam-tap, five-stroke roll, closed roll, and one other rudiment of their choice.
All students must play the "Snare Drum Audition Etude" which is available for download on this site (at the bottom of this page)
Students may choose to prepare an additional Snare Drum solo/etude. This does not need to be memorized, and students should provide an additional copy of the music for the adjudicator. The "Snare Drum Audition Etude" must still be played as well!
Mallets: Students must play, from memory, a concert B-flat scale, at least two octaves. A specific tempo is not required, but a steady tempo is strongly encouraged.
All students must play the "Mallet Audition Etude" which is available for download on this site (at the bottom of this page)
Students may choose to prepare an additional mallet solo/etude. This does not need to be memorized, and students should provide an additional copy of the music for the adjudicator. The "Mallet Audition Etude" must still be played as well!
