We are currently looking for highly motivated graduate and undergraduate students with a strong background in chemistry.  If you are interested in joining our group, please contact any of the group members including Prof. Cheon.

The Cheon research group has focused on the development of new catalytic reactions and methods that could be ultimately applicable to the synthesis of complex molecules possessing interesting structural, biological, and physical properties. Particularly, we developed novel methods to access 2-substituted indole-3-acetic acid derivatives via the cyanide-catalyzed imino-Stetter reaction and have made considerable efforts on the application of the resulting indole derivatives to the divergent total synthesis of naturally occurring indole natural products. Furthermore, we have developed a building block strategy for the synthesis of biologically active natural products and completed the modular total synthesis of several classes of alkaloid products. As such, our group's research spans catalysis, including asymmetric catalysis and organic synthesis.
