Our Story

Irene grew up in Taiwan and moved to San Jose, CA, in middle school. She graduated from University of the Pacific with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. She lives in San Francisco, CA, with her lovely pet giraffes while working at Genentech, Inc.

Nick grew up in Littleton, CO. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioengineering, he completed his Master of Science degree in Engineering Science, both from University of the Pacific. He lived in San Jose, CA, while working at HS&S for a few months. Since 2012, he has worked at Genentech, Inc. and began living in San Francisco, CA.

We met while both living in Carter House during our freshman year at University of the Pacific. We became good friends, but we didn't start dating until our senior year. Our first date was a movie on Nov. 07, 2008 (Eagle Eye). Movies continue to be a big part of our relationship in the years to come.

Throughout the our college career, we competed in various recreational sports, including dodge-ball, tennis, flag football, indoor soccer, and softball. In our spare time, we trained for and competed in the Amazing Tiger Adventure Race coordinated by Pacific students in Stockton, CA. Nick also helped Irene improve her skills in snowboarding, bowling, and golf. We explored all over California and traveled to Colorado, Arizona, Las Vegas, New York, and Mexico. For a sneak peek of our fun-filled relationship, see the Photo Slideshow.

Irene and her 2 sisters visited Nick's family during winter break of 2010, and Nick planned an elaborate and romantic scavenger hunt for Irene. After being grumpy about waking up at 5am, she finally made it to the top of Red Rocks Amphitheater (all 1000 steps) with the help of Matt. Nick pulled out 3 gift bags, 2 of which contained bracelet charms, and the last one, a black box. Nick got down on one knee, opened the box, and proposed on Dec. 29, 2010.
