Assessments

Frequent formative and summative assessment of student understanding is a major component of the Chemical Thinking curriculum. For that purpose, we have developed a variety of assessment instruments to elicit student understanding at the end of each module in a unit and at the end of every curricular unit. The end-of-module assessments, called Let's Apply, demand that students apply the core concepts and skills targeted in the module to the understanding of a relevant problem. The end-of-unit assessments, called Are You Ready? require the integration and application of ideas from the different modules in a course unit. The following examples illustrate the nature of these two types of assessment activities.
