The project “Atmospheric simulation CHAmber – New Research Facility to Understand Sesquiterpene Oxidation” (CHARUSO) wish to use an outstanding research facility implemented at Iasi, Romania to help better understanding of the relevant atmospheric processes with high impact on climate and human health. For this purpose CHARUSO will be implemented at the CERNESIM (Integrated Center of Environmental Science Studies in the North Eastern Region) research laboratories, using Environmental Simulation Chamber made by Quartz from University “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” Iasi (ESCQUAIC).
The main goal of the project is to demonstrate the applicability of the ESCQUIAC simulation chamber, as an already existing technological product, for studies on the atmospherically relevant processes with a special emphasis for in situ chemical product investigations of sesquiterpenes degradation mechanism.
To achieve the main goal of CHARUSO project, the following objectives should be considered:
1. Development of the new injection system based on the high vacuum line technology for the addition of chemical compounds into the chamber (WP1)
2. Gas phase mechanistic investigation of the OH radicals and ozone initiated oxidation of (E)-beta-farnesene (WP2)
3. The investigation of the aerosol formation and composition of the OH radicals and ozone initiated oxidation of (E)-beta-farnesene. (WP3)
