In April of 2011 and again in October, the Committee on Academic Technology (CAT) at Franklin & Marshall College solicited requests from full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty to apply to participate in a pilot project exploring the use of mobile devices at the College. The CAT was interested to learn more about the potential of multi-purpose tablet technology for curricular use and wanted to identify the specific impacts – both positive and negative – of this technology on teaching and learning from the perspective of both faculty and student participants.
The mLearning Pilot Program was a mobile learning initiative that piloted the use of mobile devices by faculty, specifically their use of the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, between May 2009 and May 2010 with the goal of exploring the potential of mobile devices to support and advance teaching, learning, and research at Franklin & Marshall College.
