The photos on this page are of Bark Carvings. Bark Carvings are made from the bark of trees. Cottonwood bark is the most common type used because it is soft wood and therefore easy to carve. Bark carvings are known for their whimsical interpretations of buildings, and wood spirits. They balance the art of leaving some of the bark on the wood and exposing certain areas of the piece.
